Every Sunday evening in January, Stingray DJAZZ premieres new concerts that were all recorded at jazzahead! 2024 in Bremen, Germany. Annual trade fair, exhibition, and festival jazzahead! is one of the international jazz community’s most important events. Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. This January, Stingray DJAZZ puts the spotlight on up-and-coming European, Asian and African ensembles that embrace diversity and togetherness. On January 5, experience the innovative sounds of acclaimed clarinetist and composer Rebecca Trescher’s Tentet, renowned for their unique instrumental fusion, seamlessly blending wind and rhythm sections with the rich tones of the cello, vibraphone, and harp. On January 12, be captivated by the quartet of Mongolian pianist Shuteen Erdenebaatar, celebrated for their distinctive and outstanding presence. On January 19, witness the ambitious Afro4Band from Nigeria, featuring bassist Bright Gain, drummer Wale Adeyemi, multi-instrumentalist Victor Ademofe, and South African pianist Luyanda Madope. On January 26, dive into the vibrant music of Alune Wade’s sextet, where Senegalese bassist Alune Wade masterfully combines African rhythms with jazz, merging West African vitality with the soulful essence of New Orleans. jazzahead! 2024 - Rebecca Trescher Tentet

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the ensembles presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is acclaimed clarinetist and composer Rebecca Trescher’s Tentet. The Tübingen-born jazz composer, clarinetist, and bandleader received the Composition of the Year award at the 2022 German Jazz Prize for her work ‘Paris Zyklus’, which Jazzpodium praised as “a masterpiece.” Trescher excels in crafting unique instrumental blends, masterfully combining wind and rhythm sections with the sounds of the cello, vibraphone, and harp. The jazzahead! lineup includes Rebecca Trescher (clarinet), Julian Hesse (trumpet), Joachim Lenhardt (tenor saxophone, flute), Markus Harm (alto saxophone, clarinet), Anton Mangold (harp, alto saxophone), Juri Kannheiser (cello), Andreas Feith (piano), Roland Neffe (vibraphone), Phil Donkin (double bass), and Tobias Backhaus (drums).

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the ensembles presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is the quartet of Mongolian pianist Shuteen Erdenebaatar. Jazz blog Marlbank described her quartet’s debut album as having a “stand-out-a-mile in the crowd factor.” Shuteen Erdenebaatar (piano) performs with Nils Kugelmann (bass), Valentin Renner (drums), and Anton Mangold (saxophone, flute).
jazzahead! 2024 - Afro4Band

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the ensembles presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is Nigeria-based quartet Afro4Band. Made up of some of the finest musicians from the African continent, jazz enthusiast and impresario Geoffrey Kwale established Afro4Band in 2017 as part of a recording project for the Afrodyssey label. Afro4Band is led by celebrated African bassist Bright Gain. The other members are Nigerian drummer Wale Adeyemi, multi-instrumentalist Victor Ademofe, and South African pianist Luyanda Madope.
jazzahead! 2024 - Alune Wade

Hosted in Bremen, Germany, jazzahead! brings together musicians, bookers, agents, organizers, jazz experts, and music enthusiasts at the world’s largest jazz event. In 2024, jazzahead! paid special attention to the jazz scene of the Netherlands and invited over forty jazz acts to perform over the course of three days. Among the artists presenting themselves at jazzahead! 2024 is Alune Wade, a prominent figure in African jazz. This “supertalent” on the bass (DLF Kultur) masterfully merges African rhythms with jazz in compositions inspired by cities like Dakar, Paris, and New York. Following collaborations with the likes of Joe Zawinul and Marcus Miller, his current music blends West African energy with New Orleans soul. Wade’s sextet at jazzahead! 2024 is comprised of Alune Wade (vocals, bass), Harry Ahonlonsou (saxophone), Camille Passeri (trumpet), Carl-Henri Morisset (keys), Cedric Duchemann (keys), and Alix Goffic (drums).
